reservation

Reservation is one of the most discussed, used, clichéd and flawed word in Independent India. Reservation in India was started in 1950 and by 2000, the parameters of reservation were as many as – caste, religion, physical fitness, gender, sports person, veterans etc.

When it started, it was a logical step by the then government bodies and its policy makers who thought to make India as a land of equal opportunities to every strata of society, so that there’s no disparity between say a Brahmin or a Dalit; and that may have been a sensible step way back in 1950s; but not now – and not on caste basis at least.

While being a Brahmin from an interior village in Bihar, I myself have seen many upper caste(referred to as General Category, in almost all the government offices in India) are very poor and unable to earn even to meet their daily living ; and many lower caste have really done well and getting good jobs – hence disparity as far as caste is concerned have been balanced; and I am sure that percentage of poor and uneducated, is now not dependent on caste, however Muslims especially in North India is still poorer and illiterate than others due to their high growth rate in population and low growth in education.

The issues of reservation is used by many political parties for their benefits, the recent example was when Congress declared reservation in Private and IT sectors if voted to Power in 2014 General election, it got less than 10% of total seats, even after this promise.

The recent Patel reservation controversy in Gujarat, which is more about disrupting and weakening a state funded and supported by some anti-national Indians and foreign NGOs, are less about reservation and more about agitation to ensure that current Prime minister’s state is attacked. I feel pity when even Media enjoys this gruesome political agenda and shows their happiness when a state is burning by its people. It shows how biased, anti-national and pervert Indian Media has become. To give you an example, below are three among many tweets:

“When a foundation is bogus as with Gujarat model one pillar shaking can demolish building” – Saba Naqvi, Outlook

“Is the Hardik Patel revolt the first challenge to the Gujarat model of growth” – Barkha Dutt, NDTV

“Shameful pics coming from Ahmedabad of cops breaking cars, scooters at Patel rally. Not quite the Gujarat model we want to see” – Rajdeep Sardesai, India Today/Aaj Tak Group

It’s not about Patel’s as I said, it’s about Narendra Modi. Patel’s are educated, working and enjoying with their family. The chief minister herself is a Patel. Media wants Gujarat or even India to have riots, to weaken financially, at the extent that they even would love if ISIS enters India or some attack happens, just because they don’t want a peaceful Gujarat or progressing India. Most media houses (sponsored directly or indirectly by anti-national elements, Underworld, foreign NGOs, Missionaries etc.) don’t like Narendra Modi, and their hate for Modi is higher, much more than their love for India, and if it is Gujarat, they are even happier.

This tactic has been even understood by our neighboring country and it was not surprising when one of the leading voices of Pakistan Tariq Pirzada tweeted and advised Arvind Kejriwal and Rahul Gandhi to break Modi’s success with division in Hindus by applying caste logic. It’s all so evident, the recent drama.

Coming to reservation, short term consequences of it has been that exploited non reserved category persons who missed the opportunity because someone else has taken his place have become deprived and miserable in the poor economic conditions of India. One good thing that has happened is percentage of SC, ST, and OBC in government institutions have risen sharply, today the total percentage of reserved category persons working in these institution is about 40%.

But, now it’s time to stop giving the caste based reservation, because of many factors and the key reason would be that  that India has lost its pace for the development due to the reservation in India, because more capable persons were not offered the places which they deserved on the bases of acts done in past. I remember many of my friends while visiting Doctors, first checks their surname(caste) of the doctor, because they believes reserved doctor may not be as intelligent as a doctor from non-reserved category.

I would request government and the policymakers (Parliament) to provide reservation based purely on economic condition of India, and not on the basis of caste. Otherwise what would a poor general category of students would get, if he is more intelligent than say a rich Dalit or minority?

Reservation should also not be based on religion for the same reason, and excuse me – as per the recent data, only Sikhs and Jains are minority in India, every other religion has a good share. You can’t have 5 or 10 crore population, and say that I am minority. In that case many upper castes would be in minority.

I know that no one has guts to abolish caste based reservation suddenly, as many idiotic politicians and even foolish voters would go against it, but government should find a way to address this issue in a serious and agreeable way.
